Number 13 Coming in Hot

If you’ve been keeping an eye on downhill racing in the Deep South for the last ten years or so, you can’t have failed to notice Calum Booth’s name cropping up here there and everywhere.

Calum is a force to be reckoned with. When you watch him on track, you can’t help but notice that he’s fast. You’ll know the type. Everyone looks at each other and wants to confirm who the rider was. You can see it in his eyes, concentrating to the max and always open to every opportunity to get rowdy as. The later, has some say he ‘s a liability, the rest know it just adds bucket loads to the overall.

Like a fair few of our talented young riders, Calum has found the path to being really looked after by the industry a bit tricky. In realistic terms, the mtb industry isn’t actually that big here in Aotearoa. Add in the vast amount of incredibly talented riders we have rising through the ranks, even though it often beggars belief, it takes some riders longer than you’d expect to get some real good sponsorship.

In Calum’s case he’s now on board a mean looking Trek thanks to Evo in Dunedin and kitted out in some very flash gears and high quality noggin protection from Troy Lee Designs NZ. Hell yeah, what a combination for the coming season.

Calum came through to Queenstown a week or so back and I managed to catch up with him and shoot a few photos at dream with his shiny new bike and gears.
