Tonal Controls
Move the sliders to see how each basic panel adjustment affects your image.
Part one
The histogram - basic panel
Each slider moves the tonal distribution in a different way. Exposure shifts the whole mountain. Highlights and shadows work on their respective regions. Push whites or blacks too far and you'll see clipping - detail that's gone forever.

The tonal curve
The tonal curve shows the same relationship as a continuous line. Shadows are bottom-left, highlights top-right. Each slider bends a specific region of the curve - now you can see exactly which part of the tonal range you're moving.
