We operate our business in the safest and most responsible way possible. It is how we like to work and it never gets in the way of adventure.

From the very beginning of AuthenticAs, we knew that working closely with the Department of Conservation was essential. We now hold long-term DOC concessions that allow us to guide by 4WD, on foot, and by bike across large areas of conservation land and tracks throughout the Southern Lakes region.

Every trip we run includes a financial contribution to DOC, helping support the care and protection of the landscapes we explore together.

Our operations and health and safety systems are independently audited by Qualworx, ensuring we meet best-practice standards for commercial guiding. We are also Qualmark Silver accredited, part of New Zealand tourism’s official quality and sustainability programme, recognising our commitment to safety, environmental care, and genuine visitor experiences.

When we are out in the landscape, leaving as little footprint as possible is paramount. We actively support the Tiaki Promise, encouraging care for people, place, and culture, and we operate in a way that reflects those values every day.

Our vehicles are fully passenger certified and insured, and both Emma and Simon hold current passenger endorsements. We carry the appropriate insurances for all the activities we offer.

Safety is personal for us. Emma is a registered nurse currently practising at Lakes District Emergency Hospital. Simon holds a current first aid certificate and has completed specialist outdoor first aid training. On every trip we carry a personal locator beacon and a well-stocked first aid kit.

AuthenticAs is a small, local, family-run business. When you travel with us, you are guided, driven, and photographed by the owners themselves, people who live here, know this place deeply, and take responsibility for every part of your experience.
