Late to the party

Around an hour after the sun has risen over the Wakatipu Basin

There was the most beautiful sunrise this morning. The sky lit up with purples and pinks for around an hour.

I struggle with sunrises, especially those really bright ones. I find this with many sunsets too. I like the subtle tones, almost as much as I like staying in a bed a little longer.

Thankfully this incredible show was still leaving traces of beauty by the time I'd left my bed and ventured into the outside world.

I'm confident that even if I'd shot the main show, these images would still be one of my favourites. No doubt, had I leapt out of bed to capture the 'main event', I would have carried on with the day and missed this part.

The views from the Coronet Peak road are outstanding in every direction
